CISCAI AND JAXA EXPLORE W.I.N.D.S. SATELLITE COLLABORATION PDF Print E-mail

In an effort to boost regional collaboration and increase the reach of the CISCAI network using state-of the-art satellite communications facilities, a series of meetings have been held between CISCAI-Project Coordination Unit (PCU) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), to explore the possible use and application of Wideband InterNetworking Test and Demonstration or the WINDS Satellite, to the CISCAI project.

The WINDS satellite, also known as Kizuna, is a Japanese communication satellite. It is being used to relay the internet to Japanese homes and businesses, through Ka-Band signals. It is part of Japan's i-Space program, and is operated by JAXA and the National Institute for Information and Communications Technology (NICT).

True to its core objective of using Information Communication Technology  (ICT) as an enabling tool to  convey salient information among its stakeholders, the CISCAI project  broadcasted its  THIRD  LIVE VIDEO STREAMING TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATION through the Internet,  with the conduct of  the  2nd CISCAI WIMAX Engineering Workshop from 25-29  January 2010,  emanating from rustic  province  of  Mae Hong Son, Thailand.

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT: MAIDEN CISCAI PARTNERS MEETING SLATED FOR JUNE 2010 IN BALI PDF Print E-mail

As part of its  2010 outreach activities,  CISCAI  will hold the  “First CISCAI Partners Meeting“ in Bali, Indonesia from  1-3 June 2010. 

Since its inception, the CISCAI has initiated a number of activities to jumpstart the establishment of a   robust  Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure in Hanoi, Vietnam and Vientiane in Laos PDR to support the immediate monitoring and efficient management of  Avian Influenza (AI) outbreaks in these two pilot sites. Among the IC technologies that are  currently  being  employed include a  combination of Geographical Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Worldwide  Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) technologies and the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) data service such as Short Message Service (SMS), and Global Packet Radio  System (GPRS).  A key component of the project is the effective and immediate conveyance of AI outbreak data from the field workers, as well as the dissemination of processed information among   different stakeholders and the general public at large.
