Bac Ninh province neighbouring Hanoi on Feb. 11 announced an outbreak of bird flu in An Dong village, Lac Ve commune, Tien Du district. On Feb. 8 and 9, water fowls were found dying en masse at two poultry farms in An Dong village and later tests proved those dead fowls carried the H5N1 virus.
The provincial authorities and relevant forces have deployed all resources to zone off the affected area, cull all the remaining fowls at the farms, and strictly monitor the transport and trade of poultry in the area to prevent the spread of the disease. So far this year, bird flu has affected 11 communes in 10 districts of seven provinces in Vietnam and the disease is threatening to spread even further. According to the Department of Animal Health, the nations bird flu watchdog, cases of the disease have begun to occur with alarming rapidity, particularly in central and southwestern regions. On February 10, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung issued a dispatch requiring double efforts to fight bird flu, in which he asked the affected localities to release details of any epidemic, systematically disinfect the area and vaccinate all nearby poultry against the disease. He especially required relevant agencies to step up the prevention of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza due to complex developments in the spread of bird flu and influenza type A/H5N1 on humans, both in the world and in Vietnam. So far this year, two cases of human victims of H5N1-type bird flu have already been detected. Last year, bird flu affected 80 communes in 27 cities and provinces, resulting in the deaths of approximately 100,000 poultry. source : http://army.qdnd.vn/vietnam.economy.enews.22595.qdnd |
