The CISCAI through the Project Coordinator, Dr. Jose Edgardo L. Aban, participated in the 16th Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF), last 27th January  2010 in Bangkok Thailand.

The CISCAI presentation was made in the morning of 27 January where a joint session of two working groups, the Earth Observation (EO) and Communications Satellite Applications (CSA) Working Groups was held. The CISCAI presentation highlighted on  the various accomplishments and activities (to date) of the project, as well as, the evolving/developing collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) through the Wideband InterNetworking Engineering Test and Demonstration Satellite (WINDS) initiative.

Dr. Aban gave an overview of the  suite of information and communications  technologies (ICT) being exploited by the CISCAI project (including mobile devices and wireless networks), and their applications  on the control and management Avian Influenza (AI) or Bird Flu. It was also the first time that the working prototype web-based geographic information system (GIS)  developed under the CISCAI  project was shown in public. The  GIS platform was developed in collaboration with the NetNam Corporation of Vietnam and the Information Center of Natural Resource and Environment (CIREN) - Vietnam Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The presentation was well received by the audience, as measured by the huge number of inquiries and congratulatory remarks given after the presentation.

The APRSAF was established in 1993 in response to the declaration adopted by the Asia-Pacific International Space Year Conference (APIC) in 1992, to enhance the development of each country's space program and to exchange views toward future cooperation in space activities in the Asia-Pacific region.

APRSAF has been holding annual meetings initiated jointly by the Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT), JAXA  and co-host organizations to discuss current space related issues and possible cooperation among countries mainly from the Asia-Pacific region. APRSAF intends to ensure wider participation of  space agencies, government officials, regional and international organizations and institutions responsible for applying space technology, as well as space agencies from outside the region and private sectors as observers.
