In an effort to increase the human resource capability of key CISCAI partner agencies in the area of information and communications technologies (ICT), in support to the on-going project Communication and Information Systems for the Control of Avian Influenza (CISCAI), the 2nd CISCAI WIMAX Engineering Workshop was held from 25 – 29 January 2010 at the National Electronics and Computer Center (NECTEC) WiMAX site in rustic Mae Hong Son Province of Thailand. The 2nd CISCAI WIMAX Engineering Workshop aimed at providing advanced knowledge and techniques in WIMAX technologies, for implementing and administering securely and effectively, the core CISCAI wireless network systems that are currently being put in place by the CISCAI Project (in Laos Peoples’ Democratic Republic and Vietnam), including servers and computer networks.
Among the advanced topics which lectured on by key experts from NECTEC included the following: - Overview of the WiMAX infrastructure and system in Mae Hong Son Model Site - WiMAX RF Design and Planning - WiMAX RF Design and Planning WiMAX Quality of Service (QoS) and applications - WiMAX Hands-on Configurations - WiMAX Performance Testing Tower Construction Fundamentals The eight (8) participants were mainly network engineers and administrators from the Information Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Laos PDR and NetNam Corporation of Vietnam, who are in charge of testing and administering the CISCAI system. Participants from NetNam Corporation were: Mr. Tran Tuan Son, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thanh, Mr. Do Ngoc Quang, Mr. Nguyen Luu Hoang; from ITRI – Ms. Anita Vannasouk, Mr. Soulideth Sihakhod, Ms. Souvanny Xaysongkham, and Mr. Wangthanousith Bouaphanh. “Tons of thanks to CISCAI PCU, our lecturers, and facilitators of the CISCAI 2nd WIMAX engineering workshop who made this Workshop so useful and memorable. The (advanced) information we received will truly make the management of our ICT networks easier.”, said Mr. Tran Tuan Son of NetNam Corporation and second-time participant to the training. The training also included site surveys in two NECTEC WIMAX demonstration sites in Mae Hong Son and Pai village in northwestern Thailand. The lectures and training sessions were likewise simulcast via the Internet/web using CISCAI-developed video streaming technology. WIMAX, which stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is one of the backbone technologies being explored and exploited by the CISCAI project, in order to provide timely and salient information about Avian Influenza (AI) outbreaks. The 2nd WiMAX Engineering Workshop was a sequel to the first one, which was held in Bangkok, Thailand in May 2009. (CISCAI-PCU) THIS SITE IS QRCODE-ENABLED.
