As part of its 2009 outreach activities, the Communication and Information Systems for the Control of Avian Influenza (CISCAI) is organizing the Mini-Workshop on State-of the-Art ICT Applications for the Monitoring and Management of Avian Influenza (AI) in Indonesia on 16 June 2009, at Hotel Ibis Tamarin, Jakarta.
The Mini-Workshop will focus on the following objectives: - To know the state-of the-art technologies being implemented by different international organizations (based in Indonesia) and Indonesian stakeholders in the surveillance, monitoring and management of AI in Indonesia, as well as other related environmental health and vector-borne diseases;
- To share best practices and lessons learned in the use and application of ICT and related communications technologies (such as but not limited to space/satellite information and communications, GIS, etc.) in the surveillance, monitoring and management particularly of AI in Indonesia , and in general, for other related environmental health and vector-borne diseases;
- To identify technology efforts and technology gaps in the implementation of AI-related activities in Indonesia and harmonize these efforts which use ICT and related communications technologies;
- To map out redundancies in ICT initiatives in Indonesia, relative to AI surveillance, monitoring, management and control, and harmonize CISCAIs activities with other Indonesian AI stakeholders;
- To identify common areas of possible technical (ICT-based) cooperation among different AI stakeholders, in pursuit of a shared goal of lessening the ill effects of AI to Indonesian constituents.
The Mini-Workshop aims to bring together decision-makers and senior experts based in Indonesia drawn from the following groups: - Representatives from Indonesian government agencies (both local/district and national);
- Indonesian health experts involved in AI monitoring, management and control;
- Nominated ICT experts on the use of ICT for tele-health/e-health applications for disaster preparedness and management;
- ASEAN and UN National/Regional Focal Points involved in AI-related issues and matters based in Indonesia (i.e. Experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) network of Regional Support Offices);
- Nominated experts on Disaster-Risk Management, in particular those with experience for providing ICT and tele-health/e-health solutions in support to AI management, monitoring and control;
- Nominated experts from national and regional institutions and organizations responsible for providing ICT and tele-health/e-health solutions in support to AI management, monitoring and control in Indonesia.
