Description

First CISCAI WIMAX Training Workshop Slated in Bangkok  for March 2009 The ASEAN Foundation project dubbed “Communication and Information Systems for the Control of Avian Influenza (CISCAI)”, will conduct the First CISCAI  WIMAX Engineering Workshop from 16-20 March  2009, at the National Electronics and Computer  Center (NECTEC) in Bangkok, Thailand.      The maiden Workshop aims to provide the necessary background knowledge on WIMAX for implementing and administering securely and effectively, the numerous CISCAI wireless systems that will be put in place during the implementation of the project, including servers and computer networks. WIMAX means  Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, and is a telecommunications technology that provides wireless transmission of data using a variety of transmission modes, from point-to-multipoint links to portable and fully mobile internet access. The technology provides up to 72 Mbit/s symmetric broadband speed without the need for cables.Target participants are engineers, network administrators, and technical person from the Information Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Laos PDR and NetNam Corporation of Vietnam, who are in charge of testing and administrating the CISCAI system. The workshop will be led and facilitated by the NECTEC-Thai Computer Emergency Response Team (ThaiCERT). The workshop will include  lectures as well as hand-on training exercises.  Participants will have the chance to perform equipment configuration, customization and a number of computer network experiments. The CISCAI project reeled into operation in 2nd quarter of 2008 and is headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia, under the aegis of the ASEAN Foundation. The purpose of the project  is to gauge the performance of these developed communications and information systems in terms of the hardware, software and “people” ware aspects, in order to provide the requisite and timely information for concerned officials to act  in a rapid manner for  the effective control and management of Avian Influenza (AI)  outbreaks within the ASEAN region. The CISCAI Project is expected to run for 3 years with a total budget of around USD 1 million from the Japan-ASEAN Solidarity Fund.(CISCAI-PCU, February 2009)
